Niagara History Center

The History Center was founded in 1921 by a group of Lockport residents to preserve and interpret the history of the City. In 1947 the mission of the museum expanded to include all of Niagara County. Today the Niagara History Center maintains and operates a five building, exhibit-based complex at 215 Niagara Street; the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church Street and the Colonel William Bond/Jesse Hawley House, 143 Ontario Street. The mission of the Niagara History Center continues to be the preservation and interpretation of Niagara County and the Erie Canal. This is done through a variety of educational programs including school tours, outreach, non-school children's programs and activities, monthly program meetings, live presentations, multimedia publications, and websites.
