Calling young thespians! Are you a world builder, a lover of language, a reader with a flare for expression and imagination? We’ll spend the week walking into the world of William Shakespeare, exploring his life and times, and unlocking the secrets to his lyricism and use of language.  We’ll play theatre games and bring to life wildly fun stories. We will learn the ins and outs of putting on a full Shakespeare production through a virtual visit from the director of the Rochester Community Players production of Much Ado About Nothing and an optional evening field trip to Shakespeare in the Park’s dual language (American Sign Language & English) production of The Tempest. Join this workshop to cook up some chaos, incite some sibling rivalry, get serious about comedy, look lightly at tragedy, and create some conflict as we construct a virtual performance of our own and  bring to life scenes from Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

Sara Bickweat Penner spent many years working in theatre in New York City, Chicago, regionally, and throughout the U.S. She has a MFA from The Actors Studio in New York and has worked with Ellen Barkin, Lee Grant, Arthur Penn, Elizabeth Kemp, Ron Leibman, and many others. She has worked in independent film and television, and as the student/talent liaison on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio. In Chicago, she co-founded Candentia Theatre Company. Sara has taught acting at the New York Film Academy, the Music Theatre Company in Chicago, at public and private schools throughout New York City, and currently at the University or Rochester and Finger Lakes Community College.
