Learn about jewelry making, beading and basket making from local Haudenosaunee artists as they bring the traditions of their culture to life through their art. Hear storytellers and join RMSC docent educators for tours of the Museum’s world-renowned collection.
With collections staff and volunteers, get an up-close view of artifacts rarely on display for the public, including art from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Indian Arts Project. Learn first-hand about the tradition of making cornhusk dolls with hands-on art activities.
Visit our At the Western Door exhibit to see what’s new this year! A temporary display will feature a sampling of Haudenosaunee objects from the RMSC collection that recently returned from a major exhibition in Germany. Visitors will learn more about the issues facing contemporary Seneca communities and the ongoing cultural significance of wampum through installations completed with support from the Community Foundation’s Historic Preservation Fund. Immerse yourself in the vibrant art and culture of today’s Haudenosaunee nations.
This program is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
