Monthly Rocket Launching

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 11/03/2024
Monthly rocket launch Saturday and Sunday at the National Warplane Museum grounds in Geneseo, NY. We launch everything from small Estes rockets to high power rockets that could fly up to 9,000 feet. The club does maintain a collection of small rockets and motors so youngsters can learn how to prepare a rocket and launch it. Guests and visitors discover our fantastic flying field, our highly organized operations and Most importantly our Extremely SAFE launches. Our launches host club members and guests flying rockets ranging in size from 1/4″A” powered Estes rockets to “N” powered monsters, to an altitude of 8,000 AGL. Flying starts by 10am, and runs until 4 or 5pm. We attempt to fly rain or shine, and try not cancel launches. Use your best judgment with the weather.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

About MARS Club

What is MARS all about?

It’s about having fun, relaxing, families, kids and rockets big and small. Whether you are flying MicroMax or a 250lb Complex N-powered “BFR”, you will always be appreciated in our club.

New Members will discover what existing members already know, that MARS is a super friendly, accessible club with some of the most knowledgeable people in our hobby.

MARS is National Association of Rocketry (NAR) Section #136, all MARS launch activities are organized using the, we follow the NAR safety Codes.

Started in 1961 by Rochester area middle school kids after the flight of Alan Shepard in May 1961, MARS became a NAR section later that year at the request of the science teachers. Although no one knows for sure, MARS is believed to be NAR’s oldest continually active section, MARS is certainly one of, if not the oldest club still in operation and is the largest rocketry club in New York state.

Spectators are welcome and there is NO CHARGE for spectators.  The Geneseo field is easy to find and is just a few miles from I-390. Bring the kids and plan to spend at least a few hours. Extreme Rocket Motors and Performance Hobbies will be in attendance at our launches- maybe you can re-kindle a past interest in rocketry!  Buy a kit and come back to fly it at our next launch.
