In the past 50 years, we've seen a precipitous decline in insect numbers worldwide – including butterflies like the monarch. How do we stem this decline? Insectageddon-Buffalo will celebrate insects and raise awareness about the critical role they play on our planet. There will be activities for kids, including artmaking and live insects and a youth poetry reading.

Why are insects important? What role do they play on a healthy planet? These are important questions. In the past 50 years, we've seen a precipitous decline in insect numbers worldwide – including butterflies like the monarch. How do we stem this decline? Insectageddon-Buffalo will celebrate insects and raise awareness about the critical role they play on our planet. 

This program is presented by the Land Conservancy and The Riverline in collaboration with the Buffalo Museum of Science, Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm, Just Buffalo Literary Center, and the Old First Ward Community Center. This event is part of a nationwide effort by the High Line Network and its members.

Activities include:

  • Artmaking for kids

  • Youth poetry reading presented by Just Buffalo

  • Butterfly release presented by Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm

  • Live insects demonstrations presented by the Buffalo Museum of Science

  • And more!

Door prizes!

  1. The first five people to arrive on September 25th will take home a native plant thanks to Dave O’Donnell at Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm.

  2. The first twelve to register online will receive a rare treat at Insectageddon: chocolate-covered crickets to eat. 

All are welcome to attend, but we require you to register in advance at WNYLC.ORG. You may also register the day of the event. During the event, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, please wear a mask or remain six feet socially distant.
