The growing popularity of the Hunter Derby is a response to the desire to bring the hunter discipline closer to its true origins. A derby gives a horse and rider challenges similar to what they may find in the field such as hedges, coops, banks, ditches, gates and logs layered over natural terrain. Courses are built to encourage daring, bravery and athleticism from horse and rider; qualities that would be rewarded in a hunt field.
The Hunter Derby at the Genesee Country Village & Museum is an event held in the tradition of a true vintage derby. Competition features both National and International level derbies. The Great Meadow, surrounding the museum's iconic white and green bandstand, will come alive with the most talented of riders as they compete for the purse!
