This NEW Audience Engagement Event, will showcase the Science Studio, “Our Marvelous Earth” and invites guests to explore the many aspects of energy with engaging, hands-on family-fun activities for all ages. The event is included with general museum admission and free for Buffalo Museum of Science members. Tickets are available at the door on the day of the event.
Witness the power of liquid nitrogen and discover what happens to matter when temperatures drop to extreme cold, have a hair-raising experience with static electricity using our Van de Graaff generator, and make your own ultraviolet ray-detecting ring with solar-reactive beads. Through these activities and more we will take a closer look at energy’s impact on matter, evaluate renewable and nonrenewable energy resources, see how energy is used in our everyday lives and learn more about how our energy use impacts the environment around us.
Hands-on activities will take place throughout the day at the Museum. Witness the effects of extreme cold on solids, liquids and gases with the Liquid Nitrogen Demonstration. Spark your curiousity with our hair-raising, Van de Graff Generator demonstration of static electricity. Discover the chemistry of fireworks with our Flame Test and experiment with electricity while molding a working circuit with our special Play Dough. We cannot see ultraviolet light, but we know it is there! Experiment with light and make your own ultra-violet detecting ring. Build a race car that harnesses the elastic energy of rubber bands, create an abstract work of art with our magnetic paint and explore sounds energy with our tubular music activity.
Admission to the Buffalo Museum of Science is $11.00 for Adults ages 18-61, $9.00 for Seniors ages 62 or better, $9.00 for Military & Student, $8.00 for Children 2-17, free for Children Under 2 and free for Museum Members.
