CAP Weekly meeting

TAK Squadron (Tonawanda, Amherst, Kenmore) Civil Aur Patrol meets on Fridays all through the year except for holidays. The meetings are 2.5-3 hours long during which a variety of activities take place. The main objective is to develop leadership skills in teens. The program is based on the Air Force model of chain of command but we are NOT a recruiting device for the military. The structure and regulation in the program allow students to gradually take on more responsibility in the running of the program, mentored by adults, as they progress through the ranks. All adults (or Senior Members) are fingerprinted and go through a thorough background check. We have a strict Cadet Protection policy.

Cadets will study aerospace topics and put them to use in various projects. They will learn about flying and flight and may be able to take Orientation Flights in CAP aircraft. Cadets will be trained in Emergency Services, such as first aid, search and rescue, and radio communications. Cadets need to pass a physical fitness test periodically and attend Character Development classes based on a National curriculum in order to promote through the ranks.

CAP makes available many other opportunities for cadets such as flight schools, encampments, and local, state, regional and National conventions. Some national activities include Blue Beret at the Oshkosh Air Show, Honor Guard Academy, Hawk Mountain Emergency Services Academy, Technology Academy and many others. There is also an International Cadet Exchange Program.

The best thing about CAP is the lifelong friendships that are forged. Regardless of future plans, cadets learn valuable skills that will set them apart, whether they go into business, education, or the military and will have fun doing it!
