Big Night for Salamanders at Genesee Country Village & Museum invites guests to witness one of spring’s most fascinating natural migrations. Each year, on the first warm, rainy nights of spring, mole salamanders emerge from their underground homes and travel to nearby vernal pools to breed. During this guided evening hike, participants will explore the trails with Nature Center staff to look for migrating salamanders and learn about their life cycle and the importance of vernal pool habitats. Following the hike, guests will gather around a campfire to warm up and enjoy a reading of Big Night for Salamanders by Sarah Lamstein. This family-friendly event is recommended for ages 3 and up. Visitors should dress for wet spring weather and bring a flashlight for the hike. Check-in takes place at the Nature Center prior to the scheduled tour time.
