What better way to celebrate autumn than with Apples, Apples, Apples! On Monday, October 14, we’ll have hands-on activities, and demonstrations all day long in the Historic Village. Plus, all kids 12 and under will get FREE admission today!
How do fresh apples become apple cider? Stop by the apple pressing station on the Village Square to see the process in action and lend the historical educators a hand! Then, see how we turn the product of the apple press into vinegar and cider for use in historical kitchens!
Make your way in and out of Historic Kitchens to experience foods bring prepared using apples, learn about drying apples, and more. We’ll have a variety of heirloom apples on display, and visitors can learn about the history of the crop in NY State and what kinds of apples are produced in orchards in this region. And don’t forget to explore our apple orchards around the Museum grounds – the perfect place for a fall family photo!
Visit with representatives from the Webster Historical Society to learn all about the history of apple picking and apples as a cash crop in 19th-century New York State! See how specific types of baskets were made to harvest apples, learn about the varieties of apple orchards that once covered what is now much of the Greater Rochester area, see a wide variety of historical tools used to peel, core, and slice apples, and so much more!
