From Soap to Riches – Larkin, Hubbard, & Wright

Speaker: Chuck LaChiusa

This lecture will tell the story of the Larkin Soap Company founders, John Larkin and Elbert Hubbard, and their relationship with architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright designed not only famous Larkin Company administration building, but also houses for company executives Darwin Martin, Walter Davidson, George Barton, and William Heath.

The Fenian Invasion

Speaker: Jim Mayer

Ever since Henry II landed with a large fleet at Waterford and began the British rule of Ireland, the Irish have longed to be free. Shortly after the American Civil War, a group of Irish veterans decided they could invade Canada and hold it hostage to force Britain to relinquish control of Ireland. Their invasion was launched from Buffalo but did not get very far – learn how and why it ended badly.
