Yuletide Open House at Genesee Country Museum
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 12/20/2020
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Select locations will feature brief theatrical vignettes of festive traditions accompanying Genesee Valley newcomers in the nineteenth century. Encounter the charming custom of breaking oplatki during Polish Wigilia, be part of an African-American Watch Night re-enactment, and revel in the jocularity of a Scottish New Year.
In the Great Meadow St. Nick will greet guests and pose for a socially-distanced photo op with children and families. Join our curator in the Freight House to discuss winter clothing, including how folks dressed in their holiday best.
As a special treat, Saturday afternoon and evening guests may enjoy the Village after dark, as it sparkles in the warm glow of candle lanterns and hearth fires.
Please Note! This very special event is self-guided, providing many different ways to enjoy your time with us outdoors and in small groups indoors. Dress for the weather; warm, comfortable walking attire and shoes are recommended. Masks are required AT ALL TIMES, unless enjoying food or beverages (must be seated).
This program is NOT a tour nor is it a full theatrical production as in years past. COVID-19 restrictions make it impossible for us to offer that same program while keeping staff and guests safe. We hope to return to our typical programming in 2021 but know you will enjoy our Yuletide Open House!
