Pop Up Park Buffalo is a grassroots organization committed to providing community based “Free-Play” opportunities for kids in Western NY.  In the last decades the opportunities for free-play have been greatly reduced due to parental fears, overscheduling of children and a general feeling that children should not be on their own.  Yet evidence suggests that free-play is the very best life lesson tool and is vital to the growth and development of children into healthy and productive adults.

We bring Adventure Play to the children! Through our one day temporary events we provide:

  • Real tools such as hammers, saws, and drills

  • Variety of scrap raw materials

  • Variety of fasteners and hardware

  • A t-shirt with space for the children to write their name

  • Volunteers that help keep the event organized

  • A healthy lunch and water

  • An empowering experience

  • An environment that encourages the kids to direct their own creations and builds

  • An environment where failure is considered a success and often encouraged

At the end of the day, we clean the site and remove all the materials we brought with us, ensuring we leave the neighborhood or park safe and clean.

We’re changing the idea of play, we’re breaking free from the traditional play model of structured playgrounds, and we want to share this idea with all of you!
