Art Camp: Prisms

Campers will learn some of the theory and techniques behind visual art expression – and ways to explore and stretch their skills. They will learn a bit about color theory and design principles as they see examples all around them and apply themselves to their own imaginative 2D and 3D creations. Behind the scenes visits to the John L. Wehle Gallery and close up shadowing of Museum professionals will help them see – and create – in new ways.

They will spend time hiking the nature center trails and observing pond life. What a way to spend a summer day!

Learn the importance of dancing in the Genesee Valley in the 1800s, practice the steps to classics like the Virginia Reel and Boston Tea Party, and show off your new skills during daily dances at the Town Hall. Have fun learning open-hearth cooking during this hands-on class for girls and boys. Explore the museum gardens, and bring seasonal ingredients back to the kitchen. Learn how to correctly build a fire for open-hearth cooking and make simple 19th-century dishes. During the week students will also make their very own receipt (recipe) book to bring home.

The great outdoors is great for kids. Many studies have shown that children who play outside do better in school and generally lead happy, healthy lives. During this free-play nature program, campers will be able to choose from a variety of crafts, games, and activities. What can you paint with besides a brush… How about fabric, a stick, a cluster of leaves, or a blade of grass? How does light and shadow affect the shade you see and how might you paint or color it? Go on a hunt for art in the Historic Village and learn how we care for and display paintings and artifacts in the Gallery. And then craft your own masterpiece. This camp is all about staying curious, giving things a try, and nurturing the creative spirit in budding artists.

2021 Buffalo Equestrian Center Summer Camp - Ages 7-12
Buffalo Equestrian Center
In 2021 the Buffalo Equestrian Center will offer FOUR sessions, three weeks of camp for ages 7 - 12 and one week for ages 5 & 6. Each session runs Tuesday through Friday. Each session features activities for riders at the beginner and intermediate levels. Students may progress to a more advanced skill level as skills are mastered. In addition to group riding instruction, the program will also feature instruction on grooming and general horse care. Campers will learn about daily barn management and maintenance at a hunter/jumper barn and learn how to set courses. Children must be between five and twelve years of age and each session is limited to twenty children.

Calling all paleontologists! Join us for Stutelage’s Digging for Dinosaurs camp for a week of Jurassic fun! Here, campers will build their own dinosaurs, decorate dinosaur-shaped cookies, and dig for dino fossils! Campers will be transported to prehistoric times to participate in dinosaur dancing and examine their very own dinosaur eggs.
