2017 Art Camp Sessions available: July 10- 14, July 17-21, July 24-28

Morning Workshops

Drawing and Painting: Guided by master artist Richard Tomasello, campers will explore traditional as well as experimental forms of mark making. Inspiration will be drawn from acclaimed Buffalo artist Chuck Tingley as young artists experience two real life examples of Chuck's large scale murals on Artpark Grounds, and then return to the studio to create their own mini murals. Tingley will make a special guest appearance to assist in the process and paint with students. Free expression and creative process mark the imaginative experience in this morning workshop. No two works will be the same.

Ceramics: Discover various hand building techniques, such as coil and slab, using clay as a medium.  Campers will throw pottery on the wheel, build vessels, experience a raku firing, and much more.  Each day will be an educational and fun way to create, build and get messy. Workshop led by master ceramist Leeann Catanzaro.

Afternoon Workshops

Kinetic Sculpture: Inspired by nature, campers will create floating landscape mobiles led by artist Brian Nacov.

Puppetry: Based on the artistry of Japanese, Slavic and Romantic Styles of Puppetry Campers will use found objects as the foundation to create stunning pieces capable of performance.

Craft Art: Buffalo artist Ani Hoover creates incredible woven designs worthy of gallery exhibition that have been shown at the Burchfield Penney, Buffalo Arts Studio and beyond.  After touring an exhibition of Ani's work at the Artpark Gallery, campers will work with the artist  to conceive their own objects and a group installation.

Photography: learn how to make a pinhole camera with 35mm film and a matchbox.  Campers will use this device to capture stunning images.

All sessions of Art Camp will include an art show for family and friends on the final day of Camp at 3pm in the Family Area of the Outdoor Amphitheater.

** A special bonus, the Albright Knox Gallery will exhibit art camp works for the month of August. Campers who participate in the August 2017 exhibition will receive a pass for admission to the Albright Knox for themselves and their families. The admission pass is good throughout the month of August, visitors will be able to view their works exhibited in the education hallway and will experience the entire Albright gallery.
